The installation Culture Lab: Oil takes its inspiration from the design and intent of the ancient temple in Jeruselem and the sacred role of oil in Jewish spiritual practice as well as in daily life. Participants slowly shed the trappings of the every day and enter a world of discovery, spiritual connection and renewal. In the life of our ancestors, oil, particularly that of the olive, was a sacred substance that provided nourishment, illumination and served as a means of connecting with the divine, through offerings and anointment. This installation offers an opportunity to experience the re-sacralization of oil, and thus of life, through experiences of creativity, self-reflection and contemplation.
